Research Help! Chromis punctipinnis, Blacksmith
To everyone:
I need your help. I'm trying to collect Blacksmith this summer for a research project. I need to collect about 30 whole fish by the end of the summer. The fish collected will be used to help form regression equations for calculating length to weight ratios. I have caught several recently off La Jolla and other places but need your help! See website below for pictures and species information. http://www.oceanlight.com/lightbox.p...s_punctipinnis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromis_punctipinnis If anyone can catch and keep a few of these guys for me I will gladly trade good beers in exchange. They are easliy caught dropping a sabiki on bait balls near the kelp line or within. Pm if you are interested and think you can catch any... thanks for the help! I need it.

nope, dead is perfect! Just try not to bleed them as it is important to get the exact weight... let them expire on their own time.
Today was slow, lots of bait, no current. Got hit hard in 90 ft. Slash and burn, never pulled drag. Nice surface conditions. No wind.

I'd be happy to help.
About 30 years ago I helped a buddy with a research study on opaleye. He needed alot of them alive so we used slurp guns to collect them. |

I was out yesterday looking for bait by the kelp and 50 yards from the kelp and couldn't stop catching the blacksmiths, first time, I kept moving and I kept catching them. If you want some, I will bring some in later this week if they are still there.
