Encinitas/Cardiff- Real Time

Cardiff and Encinitas are doing a great impression of La Jolla shores this am if any one is interested in giving North County a try. Gentle lapping waves.... Kelp in great shape and extensive.

I for one have to work but keep me posted if anyone gives it a go.

going tomorrow first trip fishing on a kayak. Should be fun. Dunno what to expect, any ideas?? I heard to fish the Cardiff pipe, usually puts up some good Hali. I'll try and post after we get back.

Also if anyone is looking to unload a starter kayak in the next 2 weeks give me an e-mail. I dont need pretty, just functional is all I ask it'll be my first one. Try to keep it to $300 or lower maybe. I live in Dana point but work in Vista/Oceanside area.

Thanks

J

I had dinner this evening at the Beach House. The surf along restaurant row was big and coming in from all directions. It did not look very inviting.

When I was there, it was high tide. I am not sure if that makes a difference in the size of the surf at the Cardiff launch but unless things change, you should plan on getting wet.

Other than the washing machine-like conditions, it was a beautiful evening. There was a bit of wind but no marine layer.

If you go, please post the results. I fished there last week with minimal success.

It's a rare day when there's no surf at the lot...high tide, low tide, it's all about timing and knowing the channels...

Lot of deep pockets in that area, don't think I need to explain what that means.

Stow your gear, and plan on getting wet, either landing or launching...there are rare individuals that can get out and land cleanly, and I can count them on one hand.

Besides, it's not as productive as LJ or DP...no fish in Cardiff...

Ya, should be fun, what time are you launching?

I suggest you stow/leash what you wish to not lose.

The Cardiff pipe is laden with rocks, no, boulders. Good for bugs, not halis, but you will get plenty of turd rollers.

Good luck!..and please post...

Looks like we are gonna launch around noon and concentrate on the afternoon bite. Planning on cinching up everthing and bringing some clean clothes for after. I figure even if we dont catch anything we'll still get a decent work out.

Lemme know what you guys think, should we just do Dana point instead if we plan on going out that late??

Thanks - I'll check this site tomorrow prior to leaving so I can change our fishing plans if need be.

Thanks again!

You can check the wave size by going to wavewatch.com. They have a camera that looks at cardiff.

Probably made every mistake in the book, almost sank the kayak. Didn't catch a thing. I may be hooked.
