What's the Hot Ticket on Handheld GPS ?
Christmas is coming and I want Santa Claus to bring me a slick new handheld GPS for the kayak.
So what is the hot ticket these days? Anything from Costco worth looking at ? ------------------- BTW...they have the Olympus 1030SW Camera on their website. |

Costco: Garmin eTrex Legend Cx
I have the "C" version. The first unit I got had a defect (bad seal), but the second one (free replacement) has worked perfectly for a couple years now. I would recommend getting that one. That seems like a good price ($150), but I would do some comparisons before buying. |

I've had this for a while now and it's awesome. I find the camera more useful than the GPS... Even in fog so thick I can't see my toes... |

I have the Garmin GPS Map 76CSX as well and I really like it's chart plotting capabilities and Bluechart maps, but I would get the west marine Warranty as I have replaced 4 of them from corrosion in the battery compartment. They never give me any crap about it, but it is a hassle, so I now keep it in a radio type bag to keep the majority of water out of it.
I have the Olympus 1030sw on my list as well.... we'll see... |

I have the 1050sw and love it. Doesnt go to the depths as the 1030 but I like the sliding protective sleeve.

The Garmin Rhino series are frickin awesome. All my buddies have them (and all have different models). They rock. Im getting one after the first of the year for sure. They even have an FRS radio built in. And you can see on the map screen where your buddies that also have a Rhino are at.

Rusty its way cooler for hunting than fishing but on mothership trips and such its a big plus.
Not to mention if your calling in somebody on a bite all you have to do is tell them its good and they can find you on the gps |

I bought an etrex legend from REI used it for several months for hiking biking kayaking but it had a weak antenna and would lose signal in any kind of tree cover and in heavy cloud cover. (they may have upgraded the antenna by now i dunno)
REI let me return it and upgrade no questions asked to an etrex legend HCX. I love it and would highly recommend it. I would also recommend REI as there return policy and service is awesome. |
