Sat. Bugs in Dana Pt.
Seaslug and I took off before sunset and joined the crowded jetty to drop our hoops. The Great Crawl was starting about 7pm when the sheriff announced that every one had 10 min to get outside the harbor. The 1st hoop I pulled netted 4 shorts and one keeper, 2nd hoop brought up 10 bugs with 2 keepers! By 8pm I had 5 in my hatch and had thrown back about 40-50 barely shorts. The next hour resulted in 1 more bug, tangled line around my rudder, my net/line tangled in a pb's prop, and chasing my lost hoop out past the red buoy and back. It was a zoo out there and this was getting to be too much work! I paddled in with my 6 bugs a little past 9pm. Met Porter & Hotrod just taking off from BBch. Good start for the season. Go get 'em!
Note: Baby Beach in Dana Pt. will be closed after Oct 2 for dredging. Other launching spots at public ramp or through normally small surf at Doheny. Wayne |

I didn't realize you couldn't retrieve that net. Bummer. I caught a shark in one of my nets. He was not a happy camper either. |

Sunday was pretty slow. I think you guys must have cleaned then out the night before. On the water early and off by 8:30 for one legal and 7 shorts. One net thrashed by a knothead! I was wondering where the dog went when I saw my net making a beeline for deeper water. I managed to recover it and fixed the damage today.

I went out of DP again Mon PM for one keeper and a couple dozen shorts. Others were picking up 2-3 legals each. The sea lions (3-4)were very active & bold and harassed us until we were able to pawn them off on a PB'er. Wind layed down 'bout 8:15 to a glassy surface.
We left some bugs for you, T_Rex, but you'll have to fight the furballs for them! Good luck |
