LJ 9/11
5:30 launch over to the pier....bait was scarce but manged to get a "full menu" (dines, greenie, spanish) 6 pieces total for 40min work and trolled North for nada until about 9:00am. Back toward the kelp and picked up a few more p-star macs on the way. Not one bite today. Looked kind of dead and slow all morning. Sun never came out. Wrapped up the skunk at noon. Not the report that most want to hear but a report none the less. Still looking for my first YT after about 8 trips to LJ now. Feel like I am doing all the right things but might have to break down and hire a guide.

Hey, thanks for the report, but give yourself a break... this is'nt an instant gratification thing. There are a few guys that catch great fish out the gate but very, very few people do that. It takes time and patience to learn. I probably go 10-12 trips between catches of any of the big 3. It will come. just keep paddling or peddling and time OTW will pay off!

you'll do fine. It has been hit or miss this summer your not the only one getting skunked a lot. I'm going out tomorrow despite my better judgment.
This weather change might be making things hard to find a good bite. Thanks for the report even if you didn't land a YT. |

Same story here.
Tough bait at pier, real quiet at kelp, mega macs on iron along the way. The skunk on my boat is getting real ripe. |

don't give up, you don't need a guide just keep making bait and trolling your a$$ off and throw some irons. i have got lots of yellows off of private boats in LJ but still none on the yak all summer. good luck and have fun!

Pretty much the same story for myself. Have been to La Jolla maybe 5 or 6 times this summer and no yellow tail. Last time out saw 3 yellow tail landed close by. Am going to give it a try again this Sunday.

Thanks everyone! Going to keep on trying my best. I do love being out on the water and am determined to make it happen. I will probably come down one day next week M-W to try again.

Thanks for the report. This time of year: Greenies, greenies and more greenies. Swap em out often, you're number is up soon!
