Hey Jim,
You can try the budget/custom approach and form a sheet of Kydex to your keel and adhere with ultra strong DS tape. $50 is pretty steep for a little bit of plastic |

Gator Patch
Amazon. Cures and hardens into a 3-4mm thick resin/fiberglass strip. I installed multiple ones at high contact areas because I was so impressed with them. Well worth the money, if you plan on keeping the kayak. It will probably be awhile before Hobie makes any major changes. How can they improve on such a great platform?
