Report on Doheny or Dana?
Anyone have a red tide report on Doheny or north of Dana? Thinking about going out Friday, but not sure if red tide is everywhere and shutting the bite down.

Went out of DP on Saturday. Red tide was pretty bad inshore and around the harbor. Looked like I was pedaling through transmission fluid. It was patchy around the rocks and the buoy at the point. Water was super clear at the drop off about 2 miles offshore. Tons of bait out there too. Got to chase some bait breezers around and cast on them and trolled for a bit, hoping some bonita or something might be pushing them to the surface, but no takers. Fished squid on the bottom and kept bringing up sand dabs. Went back around the buoy and pulled up a couple calico and a sandy on a tube jig by dropping it down directly on the color break. Took pics to remind myself what fish look like, then released them.
Harbor was busier than I've ever seen it though. All spots on the launch were full, boats everywhere, dudes in trucks screamin' at each other in the lot, a freakin' WHALE stuck in the harbor.... it was a giant clusterf*** overall. Pic was the water color just outside the harbor: |
