Central coast fish report
We (5 kayakers) left Anaheim at 12:00 a.m last Saturday morning got to Leffingwell landing around 5 a.m. and on the water around 6 a.m. we went South. Super easy beach launch and landing. Condition was not bad with some 3 -4 foot swell with heavy fog early morning but the wind came up around 10 a.m. We caught a lot of Gopher rock fish and Blue rock fish. I was able to catch a very nice 5 lbs. Red on squid which was very teasty spring rolls.
We fished Sunday morning from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with perfect lake like condition as you can see from the photos. A lot of bigger Blue rock fish on Sunday as we went north. I lost a 8-10 lbs. hitcher Lingcod had him on the lip gripper but he broke my lip gripper due to violent head shake. This was our first time kayaking there what a magical place, the beach launch and landing was super easy with 1/2 it shore break. Can't wait to go back because there a ling with my name on it, in fact I lost two legal ling on Sunday heart breaker. |

Very nice! I was at Morro Bay with the family that weekend and wish I had brought my kayak. I’ll be heading up to timber cover in a few weeks looking for some lingcod and reds.

Love launching from there! You should sign up for the Rock Fish Slamdown September 14th! It's the one event I look forward to every year.
Go to 99 Ranch and pick up a pack of frozen baby octopus. Use the tentacles on the hooks of a flatfall jig. Got my first big Ling at the tournament last year on that. and lots of rockfish. https://centralcoastkayakfishing.com/cc-slam-down/ Last edited by Baja_Traveler; 07-31-2019 at 08:08 PM. |

Nice report. It is so windy up there most the time, it really makes one appreciate the calm days.
