5/30 La Jolla
Pulled in and released 9 log cudas, and 2 bonitos.
Launched at 6:30AM, back at the barn at 9:15 AM. Tons of dines out there. Cudas leaping out of the water. Glassy smooth. Pearled the yak on the way in, but the leashes saved the day. Beats being at work anyway.

At least the water's nice and warm... Fun sets out there yesterday afternoon as well...rental yak guide told his clients to "just hold the paddle over your head and let the wave carry you in"...dump % = 100% lol

Just a bit of advice, if you have those
3 treble hook Rebel lures, take off the first hook near the line. OUCH!!!!!! Tight lines!

There was a bunch of kayakfisherman out yesterday. I counted 25 just from sitting in one place and counting ones I could see close. The barries were just about the biggest Ive seen in several years. They were shreding my sabikis. Heard on the radio a guy catching a 4 lb. greenback! Sounds cool. Threw a jig on a big swirl, he missed the hook on the strike. Lots of barries, lots of bonies. All released. Saw plenty of rental kayaks deciding to body womp at the launch on the way in. Nice day on the water.

The Curse has been lifted!
Launched alone for the PM shift with pumping surf and stupid tourists at high tide, after surviving that mess, the rest was a breeze! Bait was plentiful, but very few greenies, lots of spanish. So pinned on many candy bar macs and proceeded to feed the Cudas between nasty wind and waves. I lost a number of set ups to sharks as well. Finally as I was about to cut my losses I saw what might have been a swirl... (it was hard to tell with the nasty wind). So out went the Iron and a short battle later, this guy came to offer me Hamachi for dinner!
Saw other YT, but I could not get through all the Ginormous Cudas, and sharks to get a bait to them. O'well... came in to Pumping surf and managed to land upright, although another guy lost it way out by the western most white bouy. |
