Dana Point 3/17 .....Beginner's Luck

I took my friend to kayak fishing yesterday at Dana Point 3/17
He's never been on kayak and only handful of time for fish
On the water 8 AM ,gave him some safety instruction for kayaking inside of harbor
He handled my revo 13 pretty well after 5min

Bait was perfect size of sardine but water is 60, dirty and trash everywhere Before we start fishing I told him don't expect too much it's your first time and water is still cold
I led him use one of my old spinning reel and rod I've never used for at least 10 year
Because it was his first time, I didn't wanna go far away so we started fishing near beach outside of harbor

Around 9 am I saw him hook up something , I asked him what you got then he said "Halibut" then I saw and hear line pulling out (Thanks god I check the drag)
He tried to reeling in hard so I told him slow down and make sure halibut stay under water
Luckily fish running my side so I gaffed easily
It was 28 inch halibut
Beginner's Luck just happened
30min later I also caught legal one too

It was pretty good day for us he told me 7 people had sashimi dinner but couldn't finished it and he wanna buy kayak for himself now he's searching

Stoked! Man that’s how his addiction will start. Good job for getting a “newb” on the water. Make sure you get him on BWE.

Nice..........I have been getting nothing but little ones inside there, hopefully Spring time influx of good table fare. 28 incher is a "made my day" fish!
