One of those days...

that starts out with fishfinder problems, bait tank pump screaming and whining, fully loaded kayak cart tipping over on the way to launch, and no bites all morning.

A few hours later, just about the tide change, feels like I'm hung up on the bottom and about to lose another sinker. Slowly, the mass starts coming up. Feels like I've either hooked a giant kelp strand or maybe a 55 gallon garbage can.

A few little wiggles? Must be that braid pulling through some kelp.

Later that morning...

Naturally, my fishscale batteries were toast but:

46"
big mack on a trap rig
about 100'
Wednesday, 8/29, in the O.C.

thanks Wayne for pics and support.

That's a really nice fish!

You should have taken that thing in to get weighed, a 46-inch halibut could have weighed as much as 46-lbs

WOW! What an adrenalin rush and I was just watching! After listening to your moaning and groaning all morning it was about time for some attitude adjustment . I told you kelp didn't make your rod wiggle like that. You really became cool hand Luke after yelling "MONSTER HERE!" and played it perfectly with gaff and game clip. Way to go, John! You the Pro!
PS Ill trade you some WSB for some halibut.
