Baja DREAM mako-ville
Dream of Baja
by Makobob If you have a dream, or want something, it is up to you to make it happen. No one else will chase that dream for you. Others may help, but you are the one to provide the focus to make it a reality. You will put in the blood, sweat and tears to complete your goal. If you do not reach out and work for your dream it will die. No one can give you a positive answer to a question you are afraid to ask. YOU have to put yourself out there to achieve results. And those results are not always what you want or expect. So step back and look where it went wrong, figure it out and try again. Ask the questions that matter most, Take that step forward, approach it head on. Without that first step you are destined to FAIL. And failure is not an option, it is NOT an acceptable option. To reach any dream or goal, you must ask questions that will put on the right steps for success. Failure is not an option. One week from now I will take the FIRST of many steps on my road back to paradise, back to Baja. It will be a long, slow, troubled and difficult road I walk. I have friends to help me along my path, and walk it I will, one step at a time until I reach Baja again. I will under go a Below the Knee Amputation on the 27th of February. At that time my NEXT trip to Baja starts. There will be much work to do and lots of planning before I leave. For most trips to paradise I just load the truck and off I go. This trip will be very different. I DREAM of Baja almost nightly. And that helps keep me focused on the healing task ahead. Just being in Baja will be enough for my mental well-being, but to heal totally I will need moore. Much moore. I know it will be a difficult journey. My hope is that some of you will join me here on that trip. About a month after the surgery if things go well. The stump should be closed on the outside. No open wound or sores. I told my wife I would not go back to Baja before I was able to shower without covering the leg. So by April I could be Baja bound. I hope to be on crutches by then. About two months down the road the stump should be hardened enough to be weight-bearing and I will be fitted with a temporary prosthetic. Wow time to learn to once again LEARN to walk on my OWN two feet. Yes one will be artificial and temporary but it will be mine. The first few steps might be a little wobbly. They will get better, and I will be walking. I will learn how to get into and out of the truck. And learn how to walk on level ground. Then comes the learning curve of walking in sand, on inclines, going up and down stairs. Fun, fun, fun. As the stump matures it will shrink and the time will come when I get my permanent prosthetic. And the learning will continue as I will not be content until I can fish the cobble stone beaches. These beaches north of camp hold some mighty fine corvina with my name on them. My DREAM is to fish these beaches on my two feet by the spring of 2019, a little over a year away. Do you think I can reach this goal? Tomorrow I might ask that question to my medical team. Tonight I will just dream of Baja. Walking those beaches catching corvina. I write this so I understand and get motivated to make it happen. Also so others of you might be inspired to reach your own dreams. You for to know what to expect, to know you are not ALONE and others have come before you. And maybe for you to SHARE your trip to inspire your friends in their time of need. If YOU want something, make it happen, you can do it. Ask your questions and use the answers to achieve your dream. Take that forward step and realize YOUR potential. Step up to the bat, take a swing and hit it out of the park. Only you can make it a reality. Dream a little dream for YOU. Tight Lines amigos.

Yep as my friend SDROB would say "I've never been this old before." That will be the FIRST day of the rest of my life. Tight Lines to all.

Wow Bob! Going through all of this you still have the most positive attitude on this forum. I admire you very much. I'm sure you will be back in Baja shortly and doing what you love! Doesn't seem like you'd let anything stop you. We'll have good thoughts for you in the coming days. Jim
