Ice fishing in Utah. A travel log. Part four.
Part four:
GOING HOME Monday January 22th, 2018 1-Of course the day that I was leaving, the conditions could not be any better. If I had not packed completely the night before, I might have stayed longer. However, they were very adamant about vacating by 11:00 AM, so I did not want to pack in the morning. 2-I have no idea what these round shapes are for. Kiddy fishing pools? 3-I was glad to see higher speed limits on certain sections of the highway. 4-Even in the remotes areas, the roads were free of potholes. I did not notice one. 5-Temperature in partial sun! 6-All alone for miles in remote area with no cell signal. 7-The road was carved through some interesting rock formations. 8-While most Arco stations in LA do not provide restrooms to save money. I saw big bill boards and this sign to invite people in. 9-Gas prices at Costco in St. George, Utah. 10-Finally Los Vegas. 11-I stopped again at the Bass Pro Shops for some returns and played a bit to take a break from driving. This aquarium was inside the casino next to entrance of the BPS. This time the traffic was not so fast, but I was eventually home by 10:00 PM. Having stopped again at In-N-Out Burger in Barstow. It was good to be home. I had missed my Bidet. I will be going back to see my kin after his heart operation and before the ice melts at the end of February. This time it is Swiss Alps Inn in Heber City and Strawberry Bay Lodge at the reservoir. I will also have more power----(insert Tim Allen grunt here) with the Eskimo brand power ice auger. THE END P.S. Now it is the time to take that Aspirin. |

Great read and cool Fishing report! Gets my itch going for adventure. I hope your friend stays healthy. How did you cook up the perch and how did they taste?

Good stuff man, detailed report. I fell through the ice once fishing at Rock Creek Lake above Tom's Place. Takes a couple days for the bones to stop hurting from being so cold. The funny thing was that every movie scene I have ever seen with someone under ice or in the frozen water flashed though my mind in a split second(like Sylvester Stalone in Cliffhanger), I then used my movie knowledge of how long I had before my body would stop working and all that and broke a trail to a rock on the edge of the lake, about 20 ft. My family continued to fish for a few hours before coming back to the truck to leave, how nice of them....
Think it would be cool to be in one of those huts fishing on the ice. I had also got so much sun but everything was covered except part of my face. When I got back to work they called me Zoro cause it looked like I was wearing a mask, lol. Took over a month to fade. |

The best way to eat those tasty fish seems to be deep fried.
I watched some helpful videos about how to get out of the ice pool. I felt confident. At the Strawberry, the ice was thick enough. At Fish Lake (which I did not fish), there was a chance of thin ice, since the lake was partially frozen. |

Wow - first year in probably 12 that I haven't been up to Utah skiing. Looks like a crappy snow year - all those road scenes I recognize usually are white right to the freeway once you get past Beaver.
Sounds like you made a good trip of it though. I never had any desire to freeze out in the middle of a frozen lake... |
