Well, that really narrowed it down
Post the brand, model and your weight, I'm sure someone here can shed some light on your issue.

our scuppers are open, no flapper so yes, water comes in, especially if you're heavy for the kayak. Or if you hit some heavy water where the water will squirt in through the scupper holes then drain back out. I never put scupper plugs in as I want the water draining but some people leave the scupper plugs in all of the time. I guess it's a personal preference. As long as the water isn't entering the inner hull you are okay.

Scuppers are open holes and water goes both ways. When you take a big wave in the lap you'll be glad for them. Scupper plugs are good for calm water but you'll want em open when its rough. Some boats a wetter than others. I have a prowler 15 and my ass is wet most if the time. I wiegh 220 and when my bait tanks full I'm sitting in a puddle. So its normal on lots of boats. Mike

I had a little water coming up through the scuppers on my 12' kayak, then none on my 14'. Either get a kayak with more weight capacity or like Andy said take off your socks because you're gonna be wet

Does the way you sit also affect if water gets in? I was kinda scared to fully sit in the seat so i kinda squatted in the middle is maybe towards the bow a little

Yeah, you don't want to squat in a kayak, eventually you will flip it or fall in the water then your feet will really be wet.Don't worry about the water on the deck. Get some sand shoes and sit down. If you are getting wet get some paddling pants. I can picture you in my mind squatting on your kayak and it's making me smile. Good luck, relax, have fun

the prowler 15 is a great kayak, but, it is a wet ride... maybe more wet than most... if it is bothering you, consider getting waders...

If only your feet/leg gets wet, it's all good.
Just avoid getting your panties wet. I HATE that! ....but seriously, I have a Malibu X-Factor 14'. I weight #160 and my backside is always wet and water comes up thru the scuppers when I paddle. I bought a 2014 Hobie PA, no more swamp-butt and a warmer ride. |
