La Jolla - Shores Launch - 11/12/07

Monday - November 12, 2007 - Veteran's Day

clear, sunny day with high pressure building....
thus beautiful weather & conditions out on the water, but often a poor bite also results.

launched from LJ Shores beach at 9:00 am and landed back at the beach at 5:30 pm. 8.5 hrs on the water.

all day long, i never saw any bird activity or bait activity on surface.

went to the pier. bait was tough. only managed 2 Greenies & 1 Smelt.

turns out, i only needed 2 baits anyways....
because the fish were not biting any better than the bait.

trolled the 2 greenies all over for the rest of the day. never touched by a FISH.

late in the day, i had a seal bite off the fly-line bait. and i released my other live Mac from my hook, still strong and kicking, after about 4 hours of trolling La Jolla.

i also casted a Kroc throughout the day, while slow-trolling & drifting the live baits.

this produced the only action of the day, and kept me from driving home with that smell of skunk on me.

Total Fish Count:

(13) Total Fish..... i managed to catch only 3 different species on this day.

(6) Bonita
(2) Barracuda
(5) Jumbo Greenbacks

[ALL fish released.]

PS - i talked to all the other 3 yakers i saw out there today. they only got Barrys on Iron. nothing on bait for them either.

tight lines to all !!!

Your report is interesting. I launched at 5:30am and it was too choppy and windy so I got my fill after about an hour of pretending I was a giant live bait tank, and came back in.

I was out early Sunday and also called it quits early due to the wind, but I heard the wind completely died off after I left, about 9 AM.

this was my first LJ outing this year, but the yakkers i talked with out there that day were frequenters. they told me the same thing about the wind.... bad early, then dieing out by mid morning.

and more importantly - they also said the had been catching most fish in aftenoon lately, and the mornings had been slow of late.
