Newport and CDM 8/23
Headed out about 6:30 and headed out past the jetty to right. Trolled around a crank bait for a while and caught nothing but weeds that were floating everywhere. So I moved over to the other side of the channel. Tried several different lures. Swim baits, jigs, and poppers. Nothing! I went a little further down the coast and headed straight out trolling the crankbait. I got about 1/4 mile off shore and hooked up. it was obviously a monster the way it was pulling line and heading for Mexico. I fought him for a solid minute and a half before finally landing a HUGE 2 pound Bonito!I didn't have anyone with me to gaff the giant so I just grabbed him and removed my lure before letting him go. I can't help it, I still get excited when I catch a fish even if it is just a little Bonito. I hope I never loose that feeling. Until next time , Keep your tip up!
