Thoughts On Kayak Stand
What do you guys think about using two of these as kayak stands for my Mini-X?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Folding-Fold...item1e8a53cc83 For the same price I could build my own with PVC, but I was entertaining the idea of buying two of these camping stools as means of 'storing my yak' Plus I could use them when I go camping, etc. Thoughts? |

Looks like two of those would work pretty well as a kayak stand. My buddy made some out of PVC and some straps and they look somewhat the same and work great! It makes it easier to work on you kayak when adding a fish finder, handles, etc... as you don't have to bend over so far. Plus it keeps it off the ground or floor which is also a plus when stored.

Shit those look good. I have a PVC one I made but it keeps stretching the straps until they break. Those dont look too bad. Give them a try and lets us know what you think.

Clever idea.
Hobie warns us not to store our boats on the wheels to avoid distortion of the hull. I don't know how susceptible the hulls really are to disfiguration from storage. I store mine on the wheels, with the bow up on a small utility stool. I haven't noticed any distortion yet. The Hobie cart seems to fit in a strong part of the hull, the two pipes have donut pads where they rest on the scuppers, and there's a padded cross-member that distributes the load as well. Maybe if it gets hot (under a darker color non-reflective tarp? in a hot utility shed? the back of a hot van?) the risk of problems compounds with heat? I take chances with my own things, but because of Hobie's official warning I would suggest proceeding with caution.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was about to buy it but after looking at the dimensions I noticed these things are TINY! I'm going to have to scour the web for ones that are a bit bigger..

Some use the ones from harbor freight. Some bend though, use at your risk.

Here's the ticket:
http://www.harborfreight.com/200-lb-...and-38778.html One of the reviewers says he uses for his kayak. The only down side is that it's zinc plated steel. Water will inevitably get on it so I'll probably spray paint a few layers of rustoleum paint on top to mitigate the rusting. I'll let you guys know how it works out! |

I just use a pair of Home Depot saw horses. I store my revo upside down and turn it over when I need to work on it.
