YOU and BAJA

As I am healing the next couple of weeks it is TIME for YOU.
Baja is calling. Where do you want to go fishing. Light tackle, fly fishing, surf fishing. What are your desires? What species, where and when. I will try to use this information to set some trips up for 2015 and 2016.

This is your time to chime in on YOUR dreams. Let me know. Tight lines.

Since we're cloud talkin, there's some Baja gaps I need to fill on the yak.

San Francisquito
Punta Chivato
San Lucas Cove
Juncalito
Punta Arena (de la Ventana)

Outside Abre.
Probably have to at least try Mag Bay someday too, only because it's such a big chunk of blank space on my map.

Guadalupe

And I wish I had been able to hit San Carlos Sonora, so that's on the list.

Edit: And I've been talking about a through paddle from Pta Colorada (RIP) to Cabo Pulmo for 10 years. Buncha pansies wont do it. lol

I will be at San Quintin for my Halibut tourney on 6 June and will try and check it out with the locals while I am there. That WHOLE coast line is open to the pacific, and fishy. WSB, Halibut, Reds, Ling, Tails, Tuna, Bass are all available in this area. 75 lb WSB are caught almost every year along this coast. And some giant surf perch from the beaches winter here. Soccoro is prime, if you can get off the beach.

Bob, really trying to make that San Quintin Halibut tourney in June - just figuring out work - I think I am going to try and make it down to the area memorial day weekend though. What is Soccoro? and is it known for surf or something what do you mean 'get off the beach'?

thanks!
Anthony

SO if you take your head out of the clouds, San Lucas Cove and Punto Chivato COULD be combined we are talking about 15 miles apart. LOOONG one day drive and you are good to go if you have two drivers per truck.

Now Pta Colorado to Cabo Pulmo that's less than 15 miles as the crow flies, you want to do it non stop or camp mid point and explore both sides? How about a truck on shore to meet up with in the evening with cook/camp gear?
Even Ross and I could do it that way!!!! Zed did I get your attention yet?

Exactly. I only split them into two because the options would be different. From San Lucas Cove the Isla is right there. Chivato is unique and fishy w/o the channel crossing.

Back when Pta Colorada was running, finding a local w a camioneta to haul you back from Cabo Pulmo was the attraction. When I was there, I made almost daily paddles past Pta Arena. I was 5 miles as the crow flies (gps) from Pta Colorada, and below the point. I figured I was about 1/3 of the way to CP and the daily winds were starting to freshen from the NE, which made the paddle back to PC a little wet and tough quartering, but following would have been nicer on the drift. It would suck in a big blow, but the daily winds to 15 I experienced would have been great for the through. Only about the last mile or so would be through the Marine Reserve w a whole lot of options in between.
