La Jolla 3-12-15

Got to shores much earlier than needed could have slept extra but took the time to prepare gear. Launched on the water around 6:40am and paddled out. Started fishing the kelp for calicos for a slow start without much luck besides the pest mackerel that nibbled at my swimbait, even tried dropping some cut squid down in kelp pockets but bait kept getting stolen by mackerel, so paddled around searching for more spots. Finally hooked up on a fun calico around 9 and called it a day as I had to be in early for work and although not the number of fish I was looking for still had fun and was a beautiful morning stoked with the calico I caught and to be out there, also my first fishing report.

Congrats on the Calico. Anytime fishing La Jolla is beautiful, but when the weather is good and the wind stays down, it is hard to beat. I always find it to be super relaxing there.

Nice fish! How stoked were you to be on the water for a sunrise shot like that!! It's the best way to start the day!
