LBC 9/6 - I hate it when this happens!
On Saturday 9/6, I set out of Alamitos Bay for Chafee Island and the Wall in search of Halibut. On the way across the channel I scored a few Mackerel for bait. I also brought some Gulp Jerkshad to try some deeper drop-shotting.
The executive summary of events is: 1. I'm tired of Halibut fishing because I just can't seem to get a legal one. 2. Yesterday, I caught zero Halibut. 3. Drifted various live Mackerel on the bottom for miles. 4. Drop-shotted the bottom for a few giant Lizard fish and something that pulled then left me with 1/2 of a lure. (photo below) 5. By mid-day the wind and chop was bad so headed back in to the Bay where I caught a dink Sculpin and a dink Turbot (photo below). 6. Called it a day after the sail boat training school made the place dangerous for anything on the water. 7. Taking a break today (Sunday)! I hate it when this happens: The wall near the Bait Barge: Dink Turbot from Alamitos Bay (Hit Nuclear Chicken Shrimp): Enjoy! |

Bass
Nah...I'm all Basse'd out. I was targeting something to take home and eat with the family. While we have eaten our fair share of bass their slow growth rate makes me feel a bit guilty about it. Nevertheless some big Solana Beach Sand bass have proved to be amongst the best table fare.

I caught a pretty good size CO turbot (sole) off Dana before, on plastic.

Those sail schools need to keep a better eye on their students. Last time on my way back in kids were cutting right in front of our boat and we had to slam it into reverse.
