Launched at 4:30 or so.....found an extremely minimal crew, said hello to the dudes I know and launched quick and fast and completely DRY which rarely happens for me!! Headed to the pier to try and find some bait underneath the lights, tried and tried and tried, there were 4 of us all barely getting any bait at all. Finally around 5:30 the bait begins to make its way up, and I quickly got some nice sized macks. Finally fishing.....water was extremely weedy and green, got picked up around 9:00 HUGE ZINGGGGGGGGGGGGG....set the hook only to look over and see that tail slapping!!! Stupid threshers! The worst part was it refused to run and just sat at the boat waiting to be dehooked, so after a few smacks with the tail and a border line wrestling match with a very, very very, fresh Mr.T I gladly sent him on his way to grow bigger, The T went about 40lbs give or take and was pretty angry and green. Wound up going deep and paddling back in a stiff wind and heavy mixed up current, landed to an absolute mess at the launch/landing!! I am not sure if it is better or worse with the lifeguards circle and direction?? But I do applaud their efforts.....Gary it was nice to meet you on the beach!!

Nice job on the T release Matt!!!
I did the lazy shift; launched after 7:00AM. There were some nasty 2' sets rolling through... I took my time and got out (almost) dry. Plenty of spanish by the kelp right pass the can, some greenies as well. There was whole bunch of PBers out, and I didn't feel like getting in the crowd. I stayed on the inside. I fly-lined and combed the bottom from the the reserve till the hotel. Nothing happening for me. S wind kicked up pretty bad around 11:00AM, then slowed down after about an hour or so. Thanks for passing on the bait Joe! Fished the tide swing and headed in around 2:00PM. Much smaller surf on the beach on my way back. It looks like Gary was one of the few that scored a tail yesterday.

Hey,
You boys are suposed to be in Chruch! Spending your Sundays fishing? Nice job on the T, Matt. They're not so fun when they're full of energy and close to the boat. I still want to find nite-time Corvinas. Lamb, do you still want me to send you those Spotty Bay Bass Recipes? Yanilol PS. That Olive Oil from your father- in-law, is the best I've ever had!!! |

Thanks for the report Matt, at least you got to tug on something.
I agree that the lifeguards sort of mess it up for the kayak fishermen but they do a good job of keeping the rentals and clueless in check. I rode my bicycle from Anaheim to San Diego yesterday, saw kayaks fishing near Aliso Beach, Salt Creek, Doheney rivermouth, and the kelp near Trestles. Saw thick kelp near Swamis and San Elijo but no one on it. Last edited by FISHIONADO; 07-16-2007 at 09:17 AM. Reason: spell check |

Weather was beautiful up the hill in the afternoon so I decided to take a PM run. Got to the beach to find the breeze steady and a big bank of clouds moving in. Headed out anyway. Stumbled on bait on the hump and it was thick in the kelp, but no signs of life otherwise. Breeze never died so i called it early and landed around 8:00. Surprising amount of boat traffic for a Sunday evening.

Yeah right, Greeks invented the olive oil... It's all about my mother in law's soft feet, when she is walking on those olives to squeeze the oil... lol Don't know about the nite-time, but I hear the call... Agosto... Grande corvina...
