Newport, 8-11-14
Launched from the USCG beach just before 6am with Landwhale. Low clouds and a NW wind. Water has cooled a lot since last week, it was 66.5º - 67.8º and pretty clear. I was kind of expecting a barn burner since the tide was perfect. Didn't happen that way though, I finished at 11am with 16 (4 legal). Last week we had no tide and I got 20+. Perhaps the water cooling was the difference. Also, the fish were up on the flats and not on the ledges where they've been for a couple of months. Weird!
Mostly fished the Zman Paddlerz, though I threw some Flurries too. Every color I threw got bit, they were just being finicky about what they'd commit to. Rootbeer gold flake and white probably did best. Hot Sauce made a big difference today too. I usually just put it on when I remember, but today I noticed such a difference that I reapplied pretty frequently. Fun times as always with Steve and I want to thank him for letting me borrow a setup the last 2 weeks. Next week we're planning on hitting the Pipe in Dana Pt if anyone wants to join us.

I'm jealous. Fishing may have slowed a bit, but it sure as heck beats Monday in the office! Thanks for the report and glad you guys got a few.

Yes, I have used Senkos in Newport. The spotties like them, but destroy them pretty quick. Mostly I use the Swimmin' Senko Texas rigged, or as the trailer on a slip jig.
