Yellowtail Setup

I'm going out the the PM extended half-day trip targeting Yellowtail and Tuna on Sunday. I have a Cardiff 400 Reel and a 7' Teramar MH Rod (15-25 lb) and was wondering if this would work or is it too light?

This is my first time out for YT and was wondering if I should even bring it? Any help would be great. Also, I was thinking of respooling w/ 50 lb braid and 25 or 30lb leader, thoughts?

One thing thing I see wrong with that setup would be getting the fish to the boat quickly as the dogs will want that catch as bad as you will.

I would go with something with more pulling power, like a 3/0 sized reel. Remember your on a boat not a kayak, you'll be competing with 60 of your closest friends. Avet Jx, Mx, Trinidad 16-20 would work good. You gotta get those fish in as fast as possible or else it's gonna be bad..! But with 60 of your closest friends....it might be bad anyways....

I would recommend a solid 30# or 40# rig. Nothing fancy.
But, there is nothing wrong with using what you've got. The cardiff 400 puts out about 11lbs of drag, so if you go to 30#, you'll want to crank that star pretty snug. Definitely spool it with 50# spectra and have leader material in 20 and 30. Couldn't hurt to have 25 also, but that's splitting hairs. Ask the deck hands which leader you should use.
Good luck and have fun.
