San Onofre beach Camp Pendelton camping/fishing??
I am looking at camping at San Onofre beach park Camp Pendelton some time this summer. I was wondering if anyone has been here and if so did you launch your kayak and hit the water. How was it?? Thanks

Really nice set up for the armed forces there! Just need to wheel your kayak down to the south end to legally launch, about 200 yards.

Long walk. Take wheels. If it's in the hurricane window the swells are pretty big but mushy. Sometimes 3 reforms before you get outside.
Launching at Dogpatch is comparable. It can be flat and as easy as LJ or really intimidating visually with breaking waves as far as you can see. edit: Sorry. Wrong beach. I was talking about SanO State Beach. My bad

You may be able to access SanO State Beach through the South entrance to your camping area. If the surf is over 2 or 3 ft it might be a good idea to launch from the south end of the State beach near the power plant. Sometimes the shorebreak between Churches and Old Mans surf spots can be pretty intense.
