disappointment with a side of sheephead
So me and a buddy hit LJ today for an afternoon/evening fish. Hit the water at 1045 wind was up but disnt look bad at all, easy launch, a little choppy from wind. Bait was a little tough, spanish macs everywhere had to work jard to get the green kind. Worked the kelp edges for a while with the dropper loop for nothing, then we met up with will and headed out to deeper water and drug the flyline around for nada, we decided to head in closer to the kelp and drop some squid and hooked up a nice sheephead, found a rock pile on the way in and got some rockfish for lunch tomorrow. Starting to get frustrated with not being able to get a YT. Been searching for one for 2 seasons now and habe only hooked one that was stolen by a dog.......back to La Jolla tomorrow for another try.

Hey I saw you on my way out. I saw a yellow while I was losing all my hooks in the kelp. It was trying to get on my bait but all the damn macks were hogging it all up it just left.

It took me two years to get my first yellowtail which was last summer.
I now have 6 in just under 3 years of kayak fishing. The first one by far is the best. My goal this summer is to start releasing Yellowtail as the freezer is almost full. |

Congratulations on the nice Sheep, Josh. I know the feeling yesterday when we met up I had spent most of the day since 6:15 trolling around with a spanish mac (just couldn't find greenbacks) or troling a rapala green mac, yo yoing irons. Man, it was frustrating cause conditions looked great. Just got to keep trying. See you on the water again. It was good meating Will after reading a lot of his posts. Tight Lines guys.
