Viper spoon??
So, I was looking at a couple of YouTube videos on halibut and found a video on the viper spoon. I have seen the bouncing rig for halibut and it is very similar. I wanted to get a couple of things together to make one but I haven't been able to find the flasher or dodger anywhere in SD. Just wanted to know if anyone has used the rig or has any pointers on how to make one. Thanks!

The company that makes those was at the Fred Hall show in Long Beach. I liked the look of them, and would consider using them with Squid for Halibut. Or change to a single hook at the back plain. The tri swivels they make are working out pretty well for me too. Might be worth going directly to their website to buy the setup. I am looking into trying an Apex lure in place of their spoon.

Do you have to remove one of the three hooks to make it legal here?

You can use as many hooks as you like legally. That regulation is only for the targeting of rockfish.

I believe you can use as many hooks as you want, however if you are in possession of a rockfish then it doesn't matter what you're targeting you can only use 2 hooks. So if you've caught a rockfish you can't then move on and throw on a sanddab ganion. At least that's what I was told, so I always target rockfish last because even a sabiki would put you in violation if you're trying to make bait after rockfishing.

Not to be a stickler for regs but all ground species of rockfish may be taken from no deeper water then 300'.
