LJ 2/24 WFO baitfishing & whale-watching
Woohoo... first post ever!!!! Went to LJ yesterday around 10am to really nice day & surf conditions, only saw 1 other yakker and a boat... water around 62F and little ankle-slappers on both going out & coming in... then WFO on baitfish, scored over a dozen mac's plus a handful of smelts in 10-15 minute... proceeded to troll around with hi-lo, dropper loop, jigging... all for nuttin'
only had 1 mystery fish briefly pulled the drag then popped...retrieved the line to see a raked bait...but i'm not complaining, nice day & conditions, came close to a pair of grey whales that was about 500 yds away... oh well... better luck next time! |

Congrats. It's worth the paddle just to be in that beautiful area of La Jolla and even better to see the Gray Whales close. Some times they even go by really close (like 25"). Tight lines.

What were you paddling? I was out there on a yellow moken 14
I got a good look at the Grey whales as well as a visit from 2 w white sided Dolphin that actually came and nudged my yak wanting food or attention, I'm not sure. I almost pooped my pants

Hi William... I think we might have passed each other with a wave!? I was on a Hobie Outback in Sanddune color.... I'd love a close encounter with any cetacean species!
