Has anyone tried using these instead of the flat ones?

I'm sure the real question is will a seal bust this up? My answer would be absolutely, yes them sum beetches would. If you didn't have a seal problem, it should be good to go.
I'm not a big fan of the "Drakepuck" (sorry Neil) Although I add them in to my arsenal when the seals are a beatch... Jim

You could buy male and female grates and put it together. I drilled out the sides as well. My gut feel is there's not enough water flow through it to get the juices moving away from my traps...I use the cheapy carabiner clips on two sides.

on the drake puck....

To help with the flow and scent trail I set the drake puck on its side. I was very impressed that: - I had bugs and guys next to me pulled nothing - didn't have to re-bait - super easy: pre-loaded and frozen for a fast deployment Also, Drake's idea of using the 1 gallon jug w/ glowstick, great idea. I don't know how I did it, but I lost 4 of them last night. At least they were cheap. |

I used the milk jug last night as well and the worked flawlessly. I ran the rope with a carabiner at the end through the handle then latched back onto the rope making a noose. Then to change depths I put a kink of rope at the desired depth through the handle then looped it over the whole jug making a kind of cinch not. The extra rope got wound around a 99 cent store rope holder so it wasn't floating in boat traffic. Just be sure to leave a little slack if your dropping at low tide because in the event of a big tide movement you may come back and your floats will be under water

the bugs are going to be able to get the bait out of that type. you just want the scent. i know Drake used the same bait several trips in a row, just re froze it and it worked.
