La Jolla 8/3

Made the long two hour drive down to La Jolla today. Got down there about 6 on the water by 0630. Made bait and drifted around for a little bit with a mac on a fly line. Which I totally forgot about in my rear rod holder. Started bouncing a jig off the bottom and landed a nice little rock fish. As I cast back out I quickly remember the rod behind me cause it starts screaming. I yell over to my buddy fish on. He comes paddling over trying to catch up to me as I begin to be towed around. Finally after 20-25 min or so get him boat side where my buddy goes for the gaff assist. As soon as he goes to gaff him the gaff breaks and so he quickly grabs the big guy. Landed him around 10ish off the water by 1045 and then got home at a decent hour to clean all my gear. Great day on the water for me Landed my first and got to break in my new rod and reel, game clip and broke a gaff which I need to see about returning cause it was brand new and never should have broke on its first use. Anyone else have any luck out there today?

Nice job! Way to break in that new gear - that lucky rod/reel just trpled in value.
