So I'll stop lurking and start posting
Long time reader, relatively first time poster:
Well let’s see here. Relatively new to kayaking (as you will see later), and can’t speak highly enough about it. Something about being out there with the element I suppose. I have been saving up for a PA and finally got one. (Happy Graduation to ME!!!) I outfitted it with just about everything I might need. A buddy of mine picked up an Outback from a BWE member, so we were good to go. We get my neighbor to peddle out as well. So the three of us meet for breakfast at Denny’s (only restaurant open at 4 in the morning), and soon after, we are off. To launch at Spanish Landing. Just wanted to get a feel for the yak and play around with the finder and bait tank. Try to dial everything in. We dragged swimmies all day (fished from about 530-1pm) around harbor island. I caught 1 short butt, a ton of lizards, and a small bass. One buddy fought a bat ray foul hooked for about half an hour, along with 2 short butts. My other buddy pulled in 2 spotties and more lizards. Lesson learned for today, rod leashes only work when attached to the rod.LOL. I lost a 400TE setup. Don’t know how, don’t know when. Just turned around and was less one pole. It still hurts, but glad that I didn’t have one of my Raptors out there with me. NOTE TO SELF: stop being lazy, there is a lot to learn. Can’t wait to get back on the water. Any one in San Diego wanna paddle out, I have the next two weeks off and will be getting out as much as possible. Oh yea, one of my buddies lost a set up too. Good times. No pics of any fish, so I put up a pic of my new toy. Tight Lines, Cadillyak |

Sucks about the 400TE you lost, on the upside, that's a nice kayak.

nice going with the first time out and sucks to hear about losing a 400te. those are pretty awesome reels. whenever trolling, i ALWAYS have a rod leash on it. most times people will lose their setups to kelp or rocks rather than to fish. lol

Was the 400TE sitting in the right built in rod holder? if it was its possible that the paddle knocked it out when you uncliped the paddle from the side rail. I've had it happed once but was quick enough to grab the rod as it was sinking.
