La Jolla 1/31

I had my first challenging surf launch today out at the shores, it was a pretty damn bumpy ride. The water conditions were way too rough for me but the weather was lovely. I decided not to make any bait because the launch had me a little woozy. Paddled out to 100 ft of water and tossed the iron. First cast, nada. Second cast, fish on! After my last failed attempt at landing a fish, I was determined not to let this baby go. She kicked my ass and we did our little dance for 15 minutes. She took me too close to a boat and tried to move the fish to the other side of my yak... bad idea. I pissed her off, she started running hard and I didn't want to fight back and then she shook the hook Still determined I paddled back to the area where I hooked into her. Three to four more casts and bam! First yellowtail! 49 inches 32# on the bathroom scale. My brother also hooked into one around the same time. 47 inches 35# Guess I'm bringing hamachi to the Superbowl party.
