LJ Shores, Feb. 10th

Launched to small surf and even smaller expectations of finding any fish. Paddled over to pier for bait, lots on the bottom, but no biters for me. Put plan B into action. Fished along canyons edge and hooked up with lots of white fish and then bounced dead squid on the bottom for many vermillions and such. With expecting not to find any fish whatsoever, I sure had alot of fun with these fish on light tackle.

I guess I'll say it first...you do know rockfish and whitefish are closed till March, right? Whitefish are pretty tough but C&R rockfish does not strike me as a good idea if you are getting them deep. I had a nice vermillion while catching bait over scripps canyon the other day, fortunately I reeled him up slow and he went back down.

You are so correct, and I'm so glad the fish went back to where they came from .Caught in only 65' to 85' . It would be so cool to pick and chose the fish the bite your hook. I would have choosen a halibut!

I'm still mad about that day... After a fishless birthday at LJ(2/9), I went back the 10th. I'm kinda ashamed. I lost not one, two, or three. I lost four big fish. The first two were leader was bit off. The third lots of towing and thumpin' (hopin' big yellow), leader knot slips. The last felt like a hali, thought I lost it but it was still there... Heavy dead weight, then my spectra blows. Talk about heartbreak.. I'm takin' up golf! Oh, and a little rock on the iron.

Yea, the water did look good for some quality fish to be around! Bummer about your hookups, I too lost a decent hali, it must have swallowed the whole plastic cause my leader was frayed!

The last three leopards I've had all fooled me into thinking halibut. Headshakes, then dead weight. I hate those things.
