Yellowtail from yaks
Just wondering what the most efficient way to fish for yellowtail from a kayak is. Livebait irons or what? Also was wondering if when you do get a hookup do you chase him or let him pull you around?

Sometimes the fish want an iron, sometimes they want a greenback. Sometimes they want greenbacks and sometimes they want sardines. Sometimes they want squid and sometimes they don't want anything at all. The best things is to be prepared to try anything. The rule of thumb is "Match the hatch" which means, use whatever is in the area as bait. How you decide to fight your fish depends on what the fish is doing. Sometimes they pull your around, sometimes they don't If he's running for the kelp I'll most likely try and chase him down before he gets there. If he's going to open water, I'll let him pull me. It's a sport, sports are fun. I don't fish for food I fish for fun. The meal at the end of the day is just the spoils of war. I enjoy fighting the fish. |
