First yellowtail

My dad and 12 year old sister caught their first yellowtail yesterday. Not a kayak report but figured id post because it was in kayak range and just plain cool to watch my family. Well we were heading to the lower 9 mile bank but found a huge kelp patty appx 50x50ft just under 4 miles off point loma. Patty was loaded with bait, small YT and small dorado. Yt were very aggressive but the dorado were lockjawed. My sister caught her fish on 10lb mono on a coffee grinder because she said they were too small for "big pole" so i chuckled and said go for it. She hooked one right away and it was on. Lots of huge kelp patties in range if you have the skill and knowledge to go for it but be safe. She ended up catching three and we ended up releasing about 12 small yt. She wanted to fillet her own fish and she even ate it raw over some rice. I had a blast and was very proud of my lil sis! Trying to figure out the go pro download still haha
