East Cape: Day Two
Easiest launch of the year for me No bait around and caught two trigger fish. Had 4 Wahoo off the yak who didn't respond to a Krocodile or Waxwing. One shot at a Roosterfish who didn't react to a Krocodile. Multiple jacks and a school of what looked like Pompano with no love. No bait = no fish for me. Rancho Leonero had a Pro Angler with Hobie bait tank that was ready to be rented. Awesome to be able to stand up and spot some fish but no love with the lures. Would love to come back when the dorado are in close. Last time I was here I was catching 8-10 dorado off the yak after fishing on the pangas during the day......putting in a full day tomorrow on the yak. One striped marlin off the cruiser today

FYI I fish down la paz area and have fished the cape a lot. Crocs work good for the smaller fish. If I had to choose one lure for larger fish. Would go with a salas 6 heavy blue and white.

Yeah, I tried that for a short period as well......apparently there are some Wahoo that have been around the boats that are moored for about 7 years and they don't want to bite anything (according to one of the guides). Was awesome to see off the side of the yak though I should have thrown around the blue and white surface iron as well. Next time going to head back in the month of June or October

Bait is hard to make in southern Baja....a daisy chain with a rapala on the end usually attracts something.....with a beautiful beach and water like that I wouldn't care if I caught or not.
Great pics.....thanks for sharing Tom. |
