Black Pearl 2 Day report

After discussing our options with the Black Pearl of our weekend destination San Clemente Island held the best prospects, with warmer water and the possibility of making squid to go with our tank of sardine. 12 of us loaded up and motored out with the crew of 4. The grill was turned on and burgers were cooked up. We arrived to SCI before first light, but could not get any squid to go on the jigs. Water temps hovered between 59-61 throughout. Day one we fished Pyramid Cove and found good halibut fishing and shooting,(Dave freediving) a few mystery fish lost and lots of sheephead, whitefish and bass. Wind kicked up a little harder than forecast, but laid down again for the last couple hours of fishing.

We got a little squid to come up under the lights the next night, but none on the jigs and none really floated. We made killer big sardines and mini macks for day 2 fishing. We moved to Horse Cove for day 2 and found the biggest fish of the trip, but less numbers, the calicos were hungry in the kelp. Winds were light with high fog. We fished until 1pm and started loading up for the ride home. Crew worked hard and made the trip fun. Great group to fish with! The Black Pearl trips will only get better as the water warms and the crew gets all the details dialed in. Next trip is May 12,13 and only half full.

I know it is a surprise, but I concentrated on Butts. I was hoping to join a new club with a biggun, but I will settle for the day 1 jackpot.

Nice video and editing, what do you use for that? So where you got that 22lb was close to where I shot the 21lb but mine was a few hours later in the day and closer to those rocks.

Awsome trip! Thanx for putting together the trip andy! Everybody was nice and met some cool guys. I had a blast, even off the kayak fishing from the boat was fun. No halibut for me , but 2 calicos, misc. rock fish and about 40-50 sheepshead. So i came home with a limit of 10 nice goats and some tasty white fish.
