9/12 PM BSB

Hooked this beast at 7PM and got him up at 8. Long ass battle. Thought it was a shark, no,,,,,, a big yellow, no,,,,,,WTF is it? After a half hour I new it had to be a black. My first "in the dark" BSB. I estimated 80lbs. Went right back down once I rolled him back over and gave a little push. How bout some C&R Points :P MKNOTT

I was wondering why you stayed out in the dark, I should have turned my radio on, there was too much chatter earlier. Congrats on getting that BSB back down. You saw me get hit by the biggest and fastest fish I've ever felt. I've caught two 40lb+ fish this year and this was nothing like those. I was fishing a large greenback, 12" and thick, and I had tested the drag before dropping it, nice and tight. Whatever hit took 3/4 of my spool and I kept tightening the drag until it finally broke at the 30lb leader. Auuuggghhhhh!!!!

Sounds sharky.

Mike, nice big black. Must've had you really going for the first 15 min or so.

Slow for me at the point last night...shoulda maybe followed you guys north. Doug (Hobie Pedaller) got a yellow that looked about 20# on a Kroc, but all I got were a bunch of bonies on my sabiki. It looked pretty fishy from about 6:30 'til dark.
Nice fish Mike.

Rookie!

Yo Mike,

What you caught was in fact a big ol' white seabass, but being masters of disquise and camoflage, these things turn dark at night. Sorry you lost the WCW points, but congrats on safe release and landing nonetheless.

BTW: Good seeing you Saturday, and hope to see you and your Orvis pal again soon.

No more OC for me Kevin. These days I speed up the 5 through SD with my kayak hanging out of my truck. Got a new job and moved back down here a few weeks ago.
