Since I fly fish I needed a way to store rods at a low profile as to not tangle up in my backcast. Here is what I come up with. I could be used for other types of rods too. Also I installed a hatch to my kayak.

The hatch I put in. Not too big of deal. Probably easy work for the veterans on here. However, first time for me cutting into a new kayak lol a little nervous to say the least.

Last pics for now. It gives a low profile for fly casting, yet enough room for gear.

Well other than the stripping guides the guides on a fly rod are snake guides that are small and have a low profile. They slip underneath the bungee fairly easy with the groove I put in. In addition, most of the water I fish is shallow skinny water so it's easy to get out of the boat and get a new rod off the rack.

I wear flats style cothing with flats wading boots and fast dry pants. My major concern was havng rigged fly rods readily at hand and keeping them low as possible. I can't decide if I should paint it black. I imagine paint doesn;t stick to PVC very well. Getting ready for Florida trip.

Looks simple and efficient, guides won't get snagged on that other draw string for the top rest? Or do you remove it when switching poles?
