Newbie here, and first time at La Jolla
Hey everyone, I'm Ryan, I've been lurking the site for a little more than a month, just about as long as I've had my kayak. I haven't really had many chances to take it out, but I knew that i had to head out to La Jolla soon. So when I saw I post from mckenzie (Brian) saying that he was heading out on Friday, knew i had to jump on that opportunity. I hoped out of my warm and cozy bed at 330, tossed all my stuff in the back of my truck, and made the long drive from West Covina to La Jolla, and got there just before 6 to meet up with Brian and Ryan. After a little pep talk on how to launch from the surf we got into the water. After catching bait, we began trolling, and after getting hung out on a couple of lobster pots, I finally hooked up onto a fish. When it first hit, I got excited, but then Brian yells "Stop paddling, it might be a thresher!" so i did exactly as he said, then BAM!! my reel starts screaming, I take it off of free spool set the hook and the fight was on!! The fight felt like an eternity, but it was probably more like 45 minutes. The fish took me out on 1/2 mile sleigh ride, and the whole time Brian and Ryan were following me coaching me through it. When it finally tired out Brian and Ryan landed this sucker and Ryan was kind enough to take the shark on his yak. After an hour and a half we finally made it back to dry land, and Brian snapped a couple of shots of me and the fish
After landing, we headed to Ryan's house hoped on a scale and then hoped on the scale with the shark and it came out to a nice 65lbs We split this sucker 3 ways, and i took the long drive back to West Covina Anyways I definitely want to thank both Brian and Ryan for taking me out there with them, sharing their wisdom, chopping up the fish and coaching me though the day. Till next time, thanks for reading!! Ryan |

Nice Thresher, and congrats on landing a nice size fish on your first time out! How was the condition? The forecast says winds up to 20mph.
