dropper rig?
I was wondering, when dropper rig or is it drooper rig? fishing do you keep the reel in free spool and clicker on like when your fly lining or do you keep the reel in gear. I ask because it seem like if your using a 4oz sinker and if your in free spool wouldn't the fish feel it and spit it out.

There are plenty of knots you can use for a dropper loop but the basic set up is a wieght on the bottom and the hook riding in the loop above. A reverse dropper put the wiehgt in the loop and the hook out on the single line. As to clicker/free spool ect, it depends on what bait your using. With a squid of small fin bait fishing in gear is fine. The fish can take the bait in one quick inhale. I keep the drag light but enough to set the hook. If you're fish a big bait then free spool and clicker or thumb on is the way to go. Mike

Usually when I fish a dropper I keep it out of gear, clicker off and thumb the spool. I'll only put the clicker on if I have to put the rod in the holder, but still in freespool.

X2 what Mike said
I like using the surgeons loop, easy and strong. Also, when fishing in conditions where the bait is all gathered on the bottom, sometimes 5feet thick, I like running an extra long tag line for the weight, like 5-6ft....this keeps your bait from hiding against the bottom with the rest of the bait when the preditors come thru, making your freaked out bait stick out like a sore thumb. With the smaller easily inhailed baits i like using large 5/0-7/0 circle hooks. Reel out of gear, bait clicker on, drag set. Here's a good "how to" from this site. http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/...dsh-squid/Page |

Thanks for the feed back, I do something a little different. I put a small swivel on the loop then tie a floro leader to it. Is that still a dropper rig, Or is it a drooper rig |
