Mini shark bonanza...
Okay, I know its not a California report, but I thought you might like the video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64HsISYgBCM A recent trip to the rugged shores of North Devon in Southwest of the UK, brought a few surprises. I used the side imaging sonar to locate a new mark, very close to shore and passed by about 99.9% of boat fishermen on their way to deeper water. Well after our trip, they might think twice ! Myself and my kayak fishing buddy started picking up fish right from the word "GO"... small turbo charged mini shark or smoothounds. Adam was doing well... And I was having some real scraps on my light gear - the fish really go well on this set up - Shimano Calcutta 400 loaded with 12lb line and a new COnoflex Jedi QT kayak rod with a yellow spliced tip - a fantastic bit of gear which really showed its strength... We also had pouting, rockling, pollack and ballan wrasse... But the smoothounds were the highlight, and we really bagged up with fish in the 8 to 10lb bracket... Enjoy ! Looks like some good pulling fish for light tackle. Are your rod leashes home made? If so, where did you get the plastic coil?

Yes, they are homemade - I buy cheap kill cords (I think they are made for jetskis) and then buy some thin velcro to make a loop which attaches to the rod - cheap and easy.

Great pics....
I also make homemade leashes from old phone cords... Similar idea just find something to tie the ends.

Yeah, I am trying to avoid cords with wires that will corrode and eat the leash from within.
