Algea, Sea Ducks and....
So here is a recent report, I have not had the chance to go out for the past few weeks due to a cousin from the UK in town, Half Dome and Outside Lands Festival with some amazing Phish so I was super stoked to go out and hit the waters once again! Afternoon launch, conditions looked perfect from the beach, hardly any wind and clear waters. Once I launched it is a little different story. I smell the smell and see the yellow, yes the algae was starting to bloom. Not too excited considering last year during this time I pulled a zero on fish during these days. Anyway, I hope to paddle to clearer waters and do but then paddle into a brown algae, weird, never seen this before. Finally make bait, ready to fish! Wait, whats that going after my sabiki, it looks like a medium size Hali! Oops its a damn sea duck, I have never seen one so bold as he picks a fish off my sabiki. I get my bait and thought I was done with this guy. No such luck, this damn bird followed me for an hour no matter how hard I paddled every time I threw a bait out he was on it. I thought sea lions were bad damn these birds. Anyways after about an hour of paddling my ass off with no bait in the water I ditch the bird. Finally get to trail a bait around, waters clear up around 95 ft and tick, tick, bang there goes the line. He put up a great fight for a standard issue 25lber. Saw a lot of birds out there, but no fish action near the birds. More yellows were crashing no where near the birds. Persistence Pays off, where can I get some duck repellent, tho
