HDS-5 Update
I remember a discussion on the boards a while back about the Nautical Insight map "disappearing" in the LaJolla area on the HDS-5 and 7 units. I never heard any follow-up on that, so I have spent some time talking to Lowrance about it. Upgrading to the 4.0 software has no effect on the problem. They are still unsure of an answer and have admitted that it is definitely a problem with all of the units, as their "master" map has the same issue.... a large blank rectangle that extends from basically the LaJolla point all the way up just past Solana Beach, and East to the beach. They seem to think it is a problem with the area being surveyed, although other manufacturers have the information available on their units, so that does not make sense.
I will try to update you all when I know more... one of their engineers is supposed to call me back with some answers, I am holding my breath... Tight lines... |

Hey Wade, is the 4.0 update really that bad? I just updated mine and haven't used it yet. I updated from 2.6 or 2.4 or something like that. Is it dificult to go back to the original version? |

Thanks bc. Wonder why Lowrance would do something like that? Seems like it would be bad for business.

Thanks for the update. I started the original thread and submitted the screen shots to a Lowrance customer service rep in hopes to get through to an engineer/tech. I followed up with the same customer service rep and he still hadn't heard back from the engineering department. At about the same time I also noted a post on BD for the same problem and that guy had gotten through to an engineer/tech, so I figured they at least knew about the problem. Considering they have the backside of San Clemente Island mapped with contour lines, there is no excuse for not being able to provide that service for our local waters. If you think it would help, PM me the engineering contact and I'd be happy to contact them as well. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I have the latest version installed, and the contour lines stop to the west of 117.18. Problem exists on 2 other HDS owners I know.
