Another PnF success

me Pierpont met at Malibu pier 4:30 am...
put his gear in my truck, left his truck at Malibu pier...
headed to the launch at Esco...
Lou Dog shows up just as we're unloading at Esco...
plan was to paddle up to Paradise or so,then paddle to Malibu pier.. plastics only, no bait allowed, biggest fish takes fi dolla....
fishing was purty slow all morning... one or two calicos here and there...
Lou did get a nice 4lber to put him in the lead for the fi dolla....
I pounded the inside hard looking for a butthole...
(that didin't sound gay)...
Ok...so I was looking for where the halibut live! (better?)
no love on the flat ones inside, too much swell maybe? who knows...
starting back down towards Malibu proper I decided to hit the outer edges of the the kelp line on the way down...
still no love for me on the calicos...I was clearly in a slump...
and Mr Pierpont made sure to rub it in, as any good friend should do when outfishin his buddy...
so, in my hunt for the fi dolla fish...just when the ribbing it as it's peak...a "thunk" is felt between my fingers, a fast run and some small wiggles...does not feel like a calico...just then, a mild head shake...could it be?...have I found it?...the brown glory hole? I reach up and hit the GPS just in case... there's some heavy weight, Lou see's my rod and says...is that a Buttt?...I say, sure feels like it, but its been so long since I have felt a nice butt, (good thing Gretchen never reads these) who knows...just then, the thing lights up...violent head shakes! OH YEAH...it's a butt! I love it when it comes to color and you do not have to worry whether it's legal or not! Who's got the FI DOLLA now! 31" 12lbs on the Boga caught on a 4" Big Hammer Redrum with 3/4 oz head in 25 feet of water

so I says to Lou...let's see if that was a just one or was he the leader of a pack...I toss the swimbait right back at the GPS mark...BOOMSHAKALAKA!...hooked up again...25" er hits the deck...

I did not even believe it myself, when, on the third cast at the same spot! another legal...23"...
I guess you could say...I put my rod right into the butthole...
after a good 20 more minute of a three way pounding of the hole...no more love there...time to move on...Lou Decided to head back in and opted out of the trek to Malibu pier...Mark and I moved on...

as the tide started to come in, the water started to move and the calicos just flat out turned on!

we saw some boils and I tied on the wax wing...never put much time in with this apparatus before...
got bit right away but didn't connect...had a good one hangin' but he took me in the stringers and won...
ahhh, finally...my first waxwing calico...

there were three or four more on the wax wing...very fun gizmo!
pictures never seem to do justice to the size of fish...this one was almost 4 lbs, my biggest calico of the day...

Lou Dog...you missed out on the calico action in the afternoon!
tha's all I have to say about that!
been a while since my dinner table has seen any halibut!
some would think keeping three halibuts as glutinous...not so...
we all three took one home! although if I were by myself...my freezer would be more full!

and of course...I kept the bigger one!
