Kayak Flip :( But good size Sheephead :)

Well the dreaded kayak flip finally happened to me out at PV. Water is darn cold this time of year! All went well though.

Hopped back in and fished a little more before the shivers started. Then headed back.

The Santa Ana's were quite strong that morning and contributed to the flip. Did manage a 17 in Sheep, that is Liam my fishing buddy did. His first one!

Having your hat blow off on the way out is never a good sign: the water was beautiful in Cardiff today.

Nice Sheepy for Liam! Another video liked. Good message regarding learning how to get back on your kayak before a real situation occurs. Twenty years without flipping is an impressive track record. In my 10 years of kayak fishing, I have lost track of how many times I have flipped. It is good that it happened out deep as your reels did not get impacted with sand like when one flips on the beach surf.

ya thats where I see most of the flips, when guys are doing a surf landing. And usually its a tiny little wave they think they can surf and it turns them sideways and over they go.

If I might add...

Keeping good handles on the side of your kayak is a must especially if your a bigger guy so you can pull your self up without handle tearing off in your hand because it's rotten and you fall back in the water with nothing to hold on to when you try hopping back in.
