First Outing 6/28
Last week I picked up a hobie outback from a member here on BWE. Very cool guy and extremely helpful in answering my questions and giving me lots of pointers
![]() ![]() I wanted to get out ASAP, and decided to hit the LB breakwall for some bass action on Saturday with a few friends. Launched by 6am and reached the wall after a good paddle out. On the way out I picked up a single mac and stored him in the bait tank for later. We fished along the breakwall with swimbaits and hardbaits for a while and scratched at the bass. Early on I scored a couple calico and farmed a sandy, and I watched Jason and Tess also land a few bass. The action slowed down considerably and we picked off a couple more fish. One of our friends, Peter, had gotten some chovies and was drifting for halibut. He gave me a scoop and I decided to try drifting for halibut too. I made my way across the channel with my buddy Thien and caught the biggest lizardfish I've seen. When we got to the other side of the channel, I decided to pin on the mac I had caught in the morning. I trolled it slowly along a shelf in 50ft of water. After a while I started to see the rod tip bouncing and as I continued to watch it, dip hard. Fish on! ![]() ![]() ![]() Peter (ptn) ![]() Jason (Jaysuuun) and Tess. ![]() Plus Thien (bloox8) ![]() Most of my experience fishing for halibut comes from using luckycrafts in the surf. This was my first time fishing for halibut this way, and I was stoked to have landed my first legal from the kayak. The fish came out to 29" I've learned a lot from this site and have already met some cool members. I plan on getting out one the water as much as possible this summer. I look forward to meeting some of you out on the water ![]() -Daniel Thanks for reading! Last edited by dlmoo; 06-30-2014 at 10:06 PM. |
