Plenty of things done wrong on that landing attempt. Why hand the rod to your partner? You lose all control of your fish that way. Grabbing the line? Another no-no. Gotta agree, the biggest thing is to get a gaff. The best way to land any larger fish you intend to keep is with a gaff. Its also the safest for you. Mike
