Retired from kayak fishing now......

But I still have my cobra fish and dive covered up with a canvas tarp. And no stranger to the Suzuki 2.5 a game changer for my canoe. My first wsb from a kayak came in July 2012 at night in my scupper pro and after losing the first hookup in the kelp my introduction to 65lb braid.
From squidco on a new dawa sealine reel.
As I think back I can remember losing 2 on squid first run into the kelp and gone second wsb I had it up to my kayak and went to adjust my head light on my head so I could see what it was and it bolted on me losing that one and yes it was a wide open squid run you could grab them out of the water with your hand. I finally hooked up again and now I was ready gained my wings you might say, because I was a rookie kayak fishermen coming in to la Jolla from running all the outer banks with my 75hr mercury on a 20ft cuddy cabin bought the motor used with 110 hours on it. And 2 rebuilds I was pretty much
done offshore fishing had the scupper pro but didn't use
it. Because I had a boat. When salt water gets to the
bearing on the crank you get a funny vibration.
Feeling like the hi banks drifter coming into la Jolla the new guy but native San Diegen stay tuned I'll get back to that night on my first wsb.

As I think back.....

It was a very dark night 🌙 and Alittle bumpy on the water in La Jolla easy launch. I had frozen squid for bait.
I talked to another kayaker and he said he was going in I think because his light stopped working. Anyway LaJolla was lit-up like a city with boats. Current was running pretty strong and I thought the boats kept coming down on me and I had to paddle away to keep from getting tangled. Finally I could see why from an anchor line. I was the one closing in on the anchored ⚓️ boats hard to tell your drift in the dark. Like an astronaut in space just dots of light and blackness. So after padding away from a boat anchor ⚓️ line I was down to my last frozen squid so I paddled around in a big circle to come up in the inside of all the boats and I was starting to get tired and it was getting late and all the sudden it was game on. My first major sled ride it pulled me right into the other kayakers they were all on the inside of the boats. They paddled to get out of my way and that second run pulled me right into another kayak and we tangled. I just kept winding I was not going to lose this fish. I can remember seeing a scramble egg iron hanging from my line when I went to gaff all my senses were Max Hypervigilance winding all the way through I finally stuck a gaff in my first wsb from a kayak with iron hanging from the tip of my rod. The scramble egg salas junior had a little red lighting bolt I remember as I was cutting it free from my braid to hand back to the other kayaker. He told me next time can you let us know when you get hooked up. I said sure....next time I will scream at the top of my lungs 🫁 hookup....if I see a potential cluster fuck.
Personally i like to battle a fish quietly 🤫 kind of a spiritual ✨️ thing
