Most people in category 5: (Those who don't care to post).
Are created by people in category 4. (Those who jump on someone's ass for posting).
Someone who is not all that bothered by having a few more kayaks or boats on the water. Someone who believe the impact is limited and would prefer to welcome new people in the sport because it is a fair and positive trade-off. Someone who appreciate reading and enjoy reporting on timely conditions.
Ends up choosing NOT posting because they don't want to deal with the drama that is created by those in category 4.
The evolution of the kayak fisherman, if going from:
-> Newbie who come to read -> Fisherman who read and share -> Fisherman who no longer share
Should result in a constant state of reporting by the second group, if there is a constant inflow of fresh blood into the sport.
The website would remain in a fairly steady state where there is always a group of people willing to share their reports. The site would not change even though the individual fisherman evolves from one category to the next.
But that is not the case we have here. Here, we find the website itself have evolved from one that used to have timely reports to one that does not.
The possible causes are: either there is a reduction in the number of people getting into this sport so there is a reduction in the numbers progressing into group 2 from group 1. Or, there is an increase in the number of people who jump on others asses for reporting.
I believe it is the latter reason that caused the change in this website.
