Having friends and family that work directly with the IT industry it was disturbing to see Hewlett Packard on the MLPA supporters list so I emailed HP media relations directly and this was their response:
Hello Mr. Thomson,
I believe you’re referring to the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, which is an entirely separate entity from Hewlett-Packard Company. You can find more information about the Packard Foundation, including contact information, at http://www.packard.org.
Regards,
Gary Rainville
HP
Upon checking the link provided I found that The David and Lucile Packard Foundation is very much an environmentalist org. I can not find anything in the public comment section of the dfg/mlpa site that directly links HP as a supporter in the mlpa on either side. It seems that as we discuss the factual content of the Eco-Nazis, we should make sure our facts are absolute as well, if we state a link we should provide it. I can not say for a fact that HP is not a supporter of the MLPA, but it does look as if listing them may have been a mistake. I am following up with a reply asking for further clarification on there stand over the MLPA and will post what I find out.
